How does depression affect visa application to Australia?

Can anyone tell me what happens if you are diagnosed with depressions during your visa application? I am aware the panel doctor would probably contact your GP for medical history and they would notice the diagnosis of depression but can this seriously affect your visa application? I only ask since I suffer from depression but think I can handle myself just now although am getting pretty down and dont know if I can wait until we are granted the visa to get help. It may be granted next month, it may be 6 months - who knows... I dont know whether to wait to get help in case it means not getting my visa which would kil me....

  2. Honestly I think it will be fine. I have had a few friends from Ireland in the last few years come to Australia. One was on anti depressants at the time he took his medical exam. The doctor asked him was he on any medication and he told the doctor the truth,he told the doctor the whole waiting process for his visa to Australia had stressed him, which in turn made him depressed. I had a look on the immigration website and it didn't say any thing about refusing people who suffer from depression. Here is the link so you can have a look,so you can put your mind at ease. http://www.immi.gov.au/media/fact-sheets/22health.htm if you are still feeling a little uneasy about your situation, speak to your GP about your circumstance, and if you really don't want to take the chance on going on any medication, your GP will be able to refer you to some one who you can talk to,if that's the path you feel you need to take. I truly hope you feeling better soon, and I hope you get a approved of your visa real soon. Take care.
